SOME FACTS
My dear friends,
I agree with you that swine flu awareness is needed, but there is no need to be panicky and join the publicity propaganda carried out by media and others which acts as a vehicle to spread misconception than to spread scientific information.
These are few facts about swine flu when discussed with the leading epidemiologists.
1) Swine flu, that is H1N1 flu is not new, first detected in 1987
2) Infective stage of flue is 5 days, 1 day before and 4 days after onset of symptoms
3) The best way to prevent it spreading is asking patient having symptoms of flu like fever cough and running nose to take rest at home for 4 days so he does not transmit it.
4) Masks are of limited value if any, in this disease, it can spread through droplets on your skin, through contact etc, and I have seen that the masks in Pune are worn as fashion statement, while walking on road today morning I saw people wearing masks coming out for a morning walk with their dogs!, many wearing masks around their necks, and so on, infact these masks shall act as the vehicles to carry the virus, instead, avoiding crowded places or cinema halls or malls where airconditioners are on, is advisable, because you get recirculated air, where the virus density multiplies.
5)Death after H1N1 flu is not common, infact infections like measles is taking toll of thousands more every year, and we are oblivious of the facts. Swine flu is being blown out of proportion by media trying to create hysteria among lay people.
6) Fever accompanied by respiratory distress, should be immediately notified which is likely to be a complication of H1N1 flu.
7)The mortality is less than .01 percent of those affected, that means may be one in 10,000 affected is likely to suffer the life loss.
8) If you remember, 2 years ago SARS was blown out of proportion, what happened? Humans develop immunity to the virus, the same is going to happen, we develop immunity in due course of time, the virus is in the air, you can not stop it, our body is already developing the immunity so nothing to panic.
We need to take care of children and elderly who have less immunity and do not let them go to crowded places that is all .
WE MUST START THIS CAMPAIGN OF NOT TO BE AFRAID OF THIS FLU AND LET YOUR DAILY WORK CONTINUE AS NORMAL, NO MASKS FOR ORDINARY CITIZENS, HEALTH CARE WORKERS OR SPECIFIC EXPOSED TO LOT OF CROWDED ENVIRONMENTS MAY BE BENEFITTED, NOT PROVEN.
I am amazed to hear that people are selling masks of RS 20 each which are available to less than Rupee 1 in the market.See who is getting benefitted?
Please spread the scientific info, do not join the band wagon and stick to science, that should be the order of the day.

All Government Organizations have a holiday as 15th August is a National holiday . In the capital New Delhi most of the Government Offices are lit up. In all the cities around the country the Flag Hoisting Ceremony is done by politicians belonging to that constituency.
In various private organizations the Flag Hoisting Ceremony is carried out by a Senior officer of that organization. On Television, various Independence related programs are telecasted, reminding us of the hard times faced by the freedom fighters.
In almost all the schools and colleges around the country, no academic work in done on this day, but all the students and staff members are present on this day and there is a sort of gathering of the entire school/college within their respective premises and the flag hoisting ceremony takes place,(usually in the presence of the principal)and singing of the National Anthem. After this there are various cultural activities held in the school / college and the celebration continues till late evening.
History
At the stroke of midnight, as India moved into August 15, 1947, Jawaharlal Nehru, India's first Prime Minister, read out the famous speech proclaiming India's independence.
The moment ended three centuries of British colonial rule. The land was no longer the summer retreat of British sahibs who fancied spices, shikar, elephants and snake-charmers.
Independence was also the end of nearly a century of struggle for freedom, battles, betrayals and sacrifices. It also created a situation where we were responsible for ourselves.
But it wasn't a period of unqualified joy. For a lot of people, in spite of a new era promised by independence, partition was a painful reality and so was the bloodshed that accompanied it. That was 53 years ago. Much has changed; the struggle for freedom lives on in history books and memoirs, and on the tombstones of valiant martyrs. Politics has undergone a personality change from fiery idealism to a pragmatic cynicism. Karma drives the nation on its way forward, and population has crossed the billion mark.
But, come August 15, and the people put their troubles behind them for a while, as they stand up as a nation for the National Anthem. Along with the soaring cadences of the anthem, the hopes and dreams for a better tomorrow are renewed in political speeches and replays of the deeds of those who earned us our freedom.
Independence Day is an occasion to rejoice in our freedom and to pay collective homage to all those people who sacrificed their lives to the cause. But it is more than that. It also marks the coming together of more than 400 princely states into one nation - India. This was probably our biggest diplomatic success.
Each year, August 15 gives us the reason to celebrate all this, and do much more - it is a time to contemplate what we have and how we achieved it.
Though India had no dearth of religious and community festivals, there was, till Independence, no true national festival that the whole country could partake of. Independence Day, beginning as a day to commemorate the greatest moment in Indian history, has now come to signify a feeling of nationalism, solidarity and celebration.
Independence Day remained the sole national festival till India declared itself a republic in 1950. On January 26, 1950, Republic Day became the second Indian national holiday.
Background to the freedom struggle
Before the 18th century, India's relationship with the West had been predominantly trade-related. All this changed when the forces of the East India Company defeated Siraj-ud-Daulah, the Nawab of Calcutta.
That signaled the arrival of the British as rulers. Till the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857, the East India Company, with the Governor General as its head, ruled the subcontinent. After that, the Crown took over the administration, with the Viceroy as its representative.
In the 20th century, the country witnessed the rise of many leaders such as Gopal Krishna Gokhale, Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Banded under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi and his doctrine of non-violence, the freedom struggle moved ahead with new vigour. Milestones like the Quit India Movement, Non-Cooperation Movement, Khilafat Movement and Gandhi's Dandi March brought the inevitable freedom closer.
Celebrations
August 15, Independence Day, is celebrated in a mood of abandon and joy - no rituals, just festivities. It is also a national holiday, with educational institutions, private and government organisations remaining closed, but for official celebrations in the morning.
Schools and colleges mark the day with cultural activities, drills, flag hoisting and distribution of sweets. Government as well as private organisations celebrate it similarly.
Families and friends get together for lunch or dinner, or for an outing. Housing colonies, cultural centres, clubs and societies hold entertainment programmes and competitions, usually based on the freedom theme.
The Prime Minister sets the mood by hoisting the national flag and addressing the nation from the Red Fort, the historical monument in Delhi. This is accompanied by a march-past of the armed and police forces. Similar ceremonies are held in all the state capitals. The Prime Minister's address and the march-past are relayed live on national television.
In cities, one sees a sudden burst of saffron, green and white, the Indian tri-colour. The media goes to town with a variety of contests, promotions and programmes related to Indian independence. Television channels show patriotic movies and relentlessly play patriotic songs from old and new Hindi movies. Billboards on roadsides for different brands pay their tribute to the nation.
Everyone seems to have something going for them. Shops and petty tradesmen sell a range of Independence Day merchandise such as flags, stickers, tee-shirts and greeting cards. Street urchins hawk paper and plastic flags and tri-coloured balloons to motorists at traffic signals.
Though a trifle commercial and jingoistic, what lies beneath the celebrations is the national spirit of gaiety, pride and hope for a better future. A spirit and hope that is renewed each year.

Start steaming the dough in the thondor, and when it is done, (when a fork is pierced in the cake, no batter should stick to it), put the stove off.
Note: Instead of banana leaf, you can use almond leaf. Dough can be rolled in the leaf to form elongated cakes.

The Dark Knight
Its kinda sad to know that such a good actor is not amongst us anymore. "The Joker" is the main bad guy played by Heath Ledger, and all he wants to do is create chaos. A statement that he makes in the movie is that he is like that dog who is chasing cars, when he catches the car he wouldnt know what to do about it. The villian actually does want to kill the Batman but wants to play with him. According to him what would the Joker do , if batman wasn't there.
Some of the superb actions sequences ever filmed. Like all batman movies, the batman uses alot of gadgets, but nothing is compared to his Bat mobile. In a scene the bat mobile is ejecting our hero and guess what actually happens, a bike emerges out of the mobile. A superb sequence with him on his bike, people in the theatre actually clapped and cheered. I haven't seen such clapping in the theatre after "gangajal"
The actress in the movie dies, not that its big secret. One could say that the movie has only a couple of sentimental scenes, its all about the action. The story line is quite well laid out, so much happens in the first half, its like you will really start looking forward to the second half.
To sum it I would give the movie a 4.5 out of 5. A must watch for movie fans. A great movie. Do ont miss it!

3) If you put a little lump of salt in the kerosene oil in your lantern it will reduce kerosene consumption and make the light brighter.
4) While washing the floor in your house, add some salt in the water. After the floor has dried flies will not come and sit on it.
5) If you are tired after a long journey, put a pinch of salt in the water and dip your feet in it. After sometime you will be free from tiredness.
6) Put a tablespoon of salt in pure ghee and heat up the whole thing. The ghee will not be spoiled for a long time.

8) To get rid of worms from stored rice, sprinkle some powdered salt on it. This will keep rice fresh.
9) If you want to strengthen your teeth, add some salt in a few drops of mustard oil and use it as toothpaste to clean your teeth daily.
10) While giving a bath to your child, put some salt and dettol in the water. The child will not suffer from skin diseases.
11) Put the flowers in your flower-vase after filling it with salt water. The flowers will remain bright and fresh at least for a week.
DISCOVER YOUR REAL SELF
When the Duke of Osuna was on visit to Barcelona, Spain, he went on board a convict galley ship. As he talked with each prisoner he asked why he was there. Each of the prisoners had some excuse; one was there because a judge wanted him to be there; another found his way to the galley ship due to false witness; still another on account of rivals...... At last on e of the prisoners declared, "My Lord, I am here justly. I wanted money. I stole it and was caught."
The Duke was touched by the humility and sincerity of this prisoner. So he proclaimed in the hearing of all, "You are much too bad to be here among all these innocent men. You must leave this place at once !" And he pardoned the prisoner unconditionally then and there.
There is nothing more powerful than knowing oneself.
According to an ancient Indian fable, a mouse was in constant distress because of its fear of the cat. A magician took pity on it and turned it into a cat. But then it became afraid of the dog. So the magician turned it into a dog. Then it began to fear the panther. So the magician turned it into a panther. Whereupon it was full of fear of the hunter.
At this point the magician gave up. He turned it into a mouse again saying, "Nothing I do for you is going to help because you have the heart of a mouse."

Sneezing Series- II
- Linguistics evaluation
- Origin of Lingusitic Evaluation
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In many English-speaking countries, the German equivalent, Gesundheit (which means "good health"), is used after sneezing or coughing.
When Russians hear someone sneezing they immediately say "будь здоров" or "будьте здоровы" which means "be healthy", to which the sneezer will reply "спасибо" which means "thanks".[citation needed] Also, Russian and German superstition has it that if someone sneezes shortly after saying something, it is an affirmative omen in that something that has just been said is correct.[citation needed]
A common Arabic expression, said upon hearing a sneeze, is رحمك اﷲ raḥimuk allah meaning "May God have mercy on you" In turn the person who sneezed may respond with الحمد لله alḥamdu lillah which means "Praise be to God". However, neither of these expressions are traditionally used by Christian Arabs. Another common saying is صح" which means "Health".
In Telugu, one would say Chiranjeeva, which literally translates to live until eternity.
In Tamil, one would say noorais, nooru which is 100 ; aaisu is years ; thereby wishing someone to live a 100 years.[citation needed]
In Romanian, one would say "Noroc" (Good luck) or "Sănătate" (Be healthy), and the reply would be "Mulţumesc" (Thank you) or "Aşa să fie" (So be it).
In Spanish (Particularly in Spain) the appropriate response is "Jesús" (Jesus Christ), which means proven because the people believed that when you snooze your soul go out of your body and when someone say "Jesús" your soul return to your body.
In Spanish (Most Notably in Latin America and Mexico) "Salud" is used which like in German means "Good Health" Or in literal translation "Health"
In Portuguese, the usual response is "Santinho", literally "little saint", as an indication of blessing.
In Hebrew, the appropriate response is לבריאות (la-bree-oot) which means "to health".
In French it is customary to say "À vos (tes) souhaits," (Ah-voh-soo-eh) which literally means "To your wishes." At the second sneeze, you then say "À vos (tes) amours" which means "To your loves." If the person sneezes a third time, it is then customary for that person to respond "Et que les vôtres (tiens) durent toujours" which means "and let yours last forever."
In Greek it's "γείτσες" (geítses), literally meaning 'healths'
In Irish it's "Dia leat", literally meaning 'God [be] with you.'
In Turkish it is "Çok yaşa" which means "live long".
In Czech it is "Na zdraví" which means "To health".
In Polish it is "Na zdrowie" which means "To health".
In Finnish, one says "Terveydeksi" which means "To health".
In Estonian, one says "Terviseks" which means "To health".
In Hungarian one would say "Egészségedre" which means "To your health".
In Chinese one would say nothing but people believe that a sneeze means that someone is talking about them behind their backs or missing them.
In Norwegian it is "prosit" from Latin "may it do you good". However, it is not as common to say it as in English.
In Denmark it is "prosit" as well, but it is seen as a much more obligatory response.
In Italian, one says "salute," literally meaning "health." A rough translation reads, "Good health."
In Japanese, one says "Shitsurei Shimashita" which means "Excuse me."
In Sinhala and India one would say nothing but people believe when someone sneezes it represent they are being thought of or talked about.
Bless you is a common English expression addressed to a person after they sneeze. The origin of the custom and its original purpose are unknown. In current practice, it is a socially obligated response.
2. Origin of Linguistic Evaluation
The practice of blessing a sneeze, dating as far back as at least 77 AD, however, is far older than most specific explanations can account for.[1]
One explanation holds that the custom originally began as an actual blessing. Gregory I became Pope in 590 as an outbreak of the bubonic plague was reaching Rome. In hopes of fighting off the disease, he ordered unending prayer and parades of chanters through the streets. At the time, sneezing was thought to be an early symptom of the plague. The blessing ("God bless you!") became a common effort to halt the disease.[2]
A variant of the Pope Gregory I story places it with Pope Gregory VII, then tells the common (though untrue) story of "Ring Around the Rosey" being connected to the same plague
Series of Sneezing - I
Well, I Febronia would love to take you for a tour of SNEEZE WORLD...Come join in!!
In the first Part:
- Some Facts
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Facts
* Sneezes are an automatic reflex that can’t be stopped once sneezing starts.
* Sneezes can travel at a speed of 100 miles per hour and the wet spray can radiate five feet.
* People don’t sneeze when they are asleep because the nerves involved in nerve reflex are also resting.
* Between 18 and 35% of the population sneezes when exposed to sudden bright light.
* Some people sneeze when plucking their eyebrows because the nerve endings in the face are irritated and then fire an impulse that reaches the nasal nerve.
* Donna Griffiths from Worcestershire, England sneezed for 978 days, sneezing once every minute at the beginning. This is the longest sneezing episode on record.

CANCER UPDATE : From John Hopkins
CANCER UPDATE REGARDING MICROWAVE OVEN USAGE
1. No plastic containers in micro.
2. No water bottles in freezer.
3. No plastic wrap in microwave.
Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in its newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center as well.
Dioxin chemicals causes cancer, especially breast cancer. Dioxins are highly poisonous to the cells of our bodies.Don't freeze your plastic bottles with water in them as this releases dioxins from the plastic.
Recently, Dr. Edward Fujimoto, Wellness Program Manager at Castle Hospital, was on a TV program to explain this health hazard. He talked about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said that we should not be heating our food in the microwave using plastic containers.
This especially applies to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat, and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body. Instead, he recommends using glass, such as Corning Ware, Pyrex or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results, only without the dioxin. So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else. Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. It's just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. He reminded us that a while ago some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper. The dioxin problem is one of the reasons.
Also, he pointed out that plastic wrap, such as Saran, is just as dangerous when placed over foods to be cooked in the microwave. As the food is nuked, the high heat causes poisonous toxins to actually melt out of the plastic wrap and drip into the food.. Cover food with a paper towel instead.

All u need to know about CURD / YOGURT
2. It can help your intestine. Doctors prescribe it to patients who suffer from Intestinal Flora which can destroy your intestines due to its having a large amount of antibiotics or sulfa drugs.
3. This one may be of interest to teenagers, it can help your acne. Eat a lot of natural - preferably unsweetened - yogurt. As well as eating yogurt you can wash your face daily with water combined with lemon juice (one lemon to every liter of water). Apply a mask of honey to your face once a week, for approximately one hour, and youll have a pimple free face!
4. Suffer from bad breath? Well, eat a lot of yogurt and yes, you guessed it, people might actually sit next to you without holding their nose.
5. Does milk give you an intestinal discomfort? Then switch to yogurt. People lose the enzyme lactase through childhood. As a result, many adults can not properly digest milk. However yogurt already has lactase in it, allowing the food to digest in the body three times quicker than milk.
6. Does osteoporosis run in your family? Or maybe you just have brittle bones and/or teeth? Well eating lots of yogurt can help to strengthen bones and teeth because yogurt is high in calcium.
7. So, are you ready to add a little yogurt to your diet? Want to make it at home? Its simple. Take some milk (ordinary or skim milk, it does not matter) and bring it to the boil, and then pour it into a container. If you want the yogurt to have a thicker consistency, then add some powdered skim milk. Let it cool down, then add some yogurt culture, or some store brought yogurt, about half a cup to a quart of milk. Stir well until no lumps remain. Then cover the container in a blanket, or keep it in a warm place, around 55 to 60 degrees celsius overnight. Sometimes there is difficultly keeping the mixture warm, so it is recommended that you buy a yogurt maker which keeps the mixture at its needed temperature. Once it has thickened, you can put it in the refrigerator until you want to eat it.

Following Hollywood now,Bollywood actresses go size zero.....what do you all say???
Now its first “size-zero” female star has the sub-continent’s cinematic purists in a tizzy, amid fears that an imported Western fondness for slim women threatens to debase the culture of countries like India".
The size-zero obsession could be forcing women into extreme diets followed ... develop into anorexia or bulimia which is obviously very harmful to health.
What do you think that the wanting of "zero size" to be supported & popularized or should really be the Subject to be banned in our country India,as been already done in some of the countries????
